Lunch Bunch

Join us on the first Thursday of the month for food, friends, and fun. Come to the Holland Room at the REC for a day you’ll look forward to every month. After lunch is served we will play bingo for your chance to win gift certificates or table prizes. We look forward to seeing you there! Must register in advance.

St. Louis Sweets & Treats

Hold on to your sweet tooth and hop on our bus!  We will embark on a journey to some of the most famous and delicious places sweets are offered in St. Louis.  First we will stop at Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate to receive a behind the scenes tour where they make their famous candies, the tour includes complimentary chocolate.  Next we will travel to Dad’s Cookie Company and Merb’s to learn about the history of each company and purchase some of their yummy treats.  After our share of sweets in the morning we will head to the Lemp Mansion for lunch.  You will be able to order off Lemp’s extensive lunch menu.  After lunch we will visit a few other local favorite places where people love to go get their sweets before we travel back home.  This trip will require a moderate amount of walking.  Lunch is not included in trip cost.  BUS WILL DEPART FROM THE NEW REC FACILITY

Museums, Mosaics, and Mozzarella

Join us for a day to appreciate the finer things in life. First we will head to the beautiful Cathedral Basilica to see all of the stunning mosaics portrayed throughout the church. A private tour guide will lead us through the Cathedral to explain the history of the Basilica and reveal the meaning behind the extraordinary artwork. After the tour we will have lunch at Zia’s on The Hill where you will be able to order from their full menu. Once we are finished with lunch we will make a quick stop at the Missouri Baking Company if you’d like to purchase any of their baked goods. To conclude our trip we will take a self guided tour of the Jewel Box in Forrest Park, then stop at the Missouri History Museum to see the traveling collection of Pulitzer Prize winning photographs. Price includes transportation and tour fees.

The Tom Sawyer Adventures

Step back in time as we travel to the hometown of famous author, Mark Twain. Our bus will depart for Hannibal, MO to see the place where Twain grew up. We will have a chance to see the Mark Twain childhood home and the museum with artifacts from his life. After touring the house and historic museum we will stop for lunch at the Mark Twain Dinette and Family Restaurant, Hannibal’s hometown restaurant for the last 74 years. Once we have finished lunch you will have the opportunity to walk the cobblestone streets of downtown Hannibal for shopping or visit a few other museums for an additional fee. Price includes transportation, lunch and Mark Twain Museum fee. The bus will depart from the The REC parking lot.

Shawnee Wine Trail

Enjoy the beautiful scenery as we travel through the Shawnee National Forest and visit some of Southern Illinois favorite wineries. At each winery we will be able to do a wine tasting and find out what makes their wine so special. Once we have finished with the wineries we will embark for lunch at Giant City Lodge and Restaurant for a family style meal of all you can eat fried chicken with all of the sides. Price includes transportation, wine tastings, and lunch.

Christmas in St. Charles

Get a jump start on the Holidays! The Gingerbread Shop in Kirkwood will be overflowing with poinsettias, decor and tasty goodies like peppermint bark, old fashioned molasses puffs, nuts, chocolates, and much more. Afterwards we will head to St. Charles for lunch and to check out the unique boutiques they offer, all decorated for the Holiday season! There is significant walking on this trip, but plenty of rest areas as well. Price includes transportation only

Trivia Day

If you think you’re smart or if you know someone that’s a know it all, join us at The REC for our trivia day. You can register individually or register as a table of 6. Trivia questions will range from sports to spooky and history to what’s fresh and new along with plenty of other categories. Your table could get extra prizes if you decorate or get dressed up. Tables are responsible for bringing their own snacks and treats. We will provide coffee, tea, and water.

Senior Walking Club

This program will be for our senior members at the REC. They will come walk with us on the indoor track twice a week. We will set a goal at the beginning of each week and keep track of their progress. There will be an allotted time they will come walk on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We will encourage our seniors with daily quotes and to set goals to keep them motivated!

Day Camp is held at Moody Park from 9:00 am-3:00 pm. Before/After Care is available 7:00-9:00 am and 3:00-6:00 pm.

Each week includes a specific theme, a field trip, swimming, arts & crafts, outdoor games & fun food Fridays.

Ice Cream Social

Cool off with Parks and Recreation for our annual Ice Cream Social. This is free to Fairview Heights Residents and School Students only. Joining us will be the Fairview Heights Fire Department from 6-6:30. Ice Cream will be served from 6-8 p.m.

The annual Kids Fishing Rodeo is quickly approaching. Preregistration is required and can be done at the Fairview Heights Parks & Recreaiton Office or online. Thanks to the City of Fairview Heights and the Elks Lodge 664 every child will receive lunch and prizes. The event is for Fairview Heights Residents only. Come out to Moody Park and see if you can catch the BIG ONE!

Fall Festival

Bring the entire family out to Moody Park on Saturday, October 12th from 1:00-6:00 pm for some good old fashion fun. Admission is free (all children must be accompanied by a parent). We will have vendors selling food, crafts, and novelties. Children can play games for a chance to win prizes. Games will cost $0.50 per play. Crafts, pumpkin painting and hay rides will also be available. We look forward to seeing you there!

Monster Egg Hunt

Join us SaturdayOctober 12th for the 7th annual Monster Egg Hunt! There will be over 5,000 black and orange eggs filled with toys and candy. If you wear your Halloween costume you will receive extra tickets to use at the Fall Festival! The Monster Egg Hunt is for children ages 2-8 years old. The hunt begins at 2:00 pm SHARP and is over within minutes. Be sure to arrive early to claim your spot.

Christmas Spectacular

Gather all your good boys and girls and come see Santa Claus! We will be having the annual Christmas Spectacular on Saturday December 14. Come with your family to enjoy games, food, crafts, and of course a visit from Santa Claus and his favorite elves from the North Pole.

Every child wants to receive a letter from Santa Claus! Fairview Heights Parks & Recreation works pretty closely with Santa and his magical elves. If you wish to receive a letter in the mail from the big guy, we would love to have him send one your way. Be careful when opening though, Santa is knonw to fill his envelopes with some Christmas magic! Contact parks@cofh for more information.

Send a letter to Santa Claus! The REC will have a place for you to drop off your letters to the North Pole. We will make sure they are received safely by Santa Claus himself!

The Great Pumpkin Glow

It’s the great pumpkin glow! Families are invited to the REC for a fun family night. Each family will receive a pumpkin as well as carving supplies to create their perfect Jack-O-Lantern. We will have hotdogs, beverages, and snacks for all families that participate. Must register by October 15. Halloween costumes are encouraged!

Track of Treats

Families are welcome to attend the Track of Treats at the REC. Businesses will be lined around the track to hand out candy and other goodies for the children that attend. We encourage everyone to dress in costumes to participate in the fun family event!

Does your child need somewhere fun and safe to play? Do you need a nightout or just some peace and quiet? Look no further than Parent’s Night Out at The REC! While they play with their friends, you take a well deserved night off knowing your child is in good hands. There will be organized time for: Swimming, Gym, Playground, ClipnClimb(CNC only available for those weighing over 25 pounds)
